Balut Recipe

PICKLED BALUT INGREDIENTS
1 dozen balut (duck embryo), boiled and unpeeled
3 cups sugar
3 cups vinegar
3 tsps. rock salt
1 red bell pepper, julienned
1 carrot, julienned
1 thumb-size ginger, julienned

PICKLED BALUT PROCEDURES
1. To prepare the pickling solution: Boil together the vinegar, sugar and salt and pour into a sterilized jar.
2. Peeled the boiled balut and place inside the jar. Garnish with red bell pepper, carrots and ginger. Allow to ferment for 2 days.
3. Serve as an appetizer if desired.

Facts about Balut egg.

Balut, a popular Filipino delicacies which is from a duck egg with a nearly-developed embryo inside that is boiled and eaten in the shell.Most of the Filipinos love eating this boiled duck eggs for they believe that it is an aphrodisiac food. This food is high in protein and complex nutrients.In cooking industry several restaurants started cooking this balut egg with a twist and comes up with a good dish using this typical balut.I myself love to eat this one kind of Balut which they called a "LIKOS"a filipino term which refers to an eighteen days old of egg or embryo inside the shell. Even though Balut is a popular food in the Philippines there are still Filipinos who prefer to eat PENOY a duck egg which is not fertilize in the fertilization process. Vendors sell this food during night time, for this food is best as a "PULUTAN" on bingiing on beer.


HOW TO COOK THE BALUT EGG.




1.Brush the duck eggs in order to get rid of the dirt on the shell.

2.Put water 500ml for 10 eggs on the pot.

3.When you reach the boiling point of the water, start to count 20-30minutes and continue to boiled the eggs, when you reach that duration, the balut meat inside the shell is already cook perfectly.
